US Power Plants
U.S., DC & Puerto Rico · 14,767 locations
14,767 US power plants from the U.S. Energy Information Administration's generator inventory (Form EIA-860M, August 2026), one row per plant, with the street address, city and ZIP from the EIA-860 2025 plant file.
More about this list
It covers every plant with at least 1 MW of generators in the 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico: 1,418 GW of nameplate capacity. By main fuel: 7,453 solar, 1,979 natural gas, 1,401 hydro, 1,373 wind, 894 petroleum, 664 battery storage, 584 biomass and waste, 193 coal, 66 geothermal, 56 nuclear and 33 pumped-storage hydro plants. 2,845 plants are 100 MW or larger and 314 are 1,000 MW or larger. Each row carries EIA's plant id, the operating company and its EIA id, county, coordinates, NERC region, balancing authority, sector (utility, independent power producer, industrial or commercial), the main fuel and technology plus every fuel and technology at the plant, nameplate and summer MW, battery MWh, generator count, the first and newest operating year, planned retirements, planned new capacity and status (14,236 operating, the rest on standby or out of service). California (1,926), New York (1,163) and Texas (1,095) have the most.
The file has all 14,767 locations across 52 states in one download. Building the same list by searching one area at a time tends to miss places, and a missed place looks like a gap in coverage that is not really there.

Using ChatGPT, Claude or an API?
No setup needed. Ask ChatGPT or Claude your question about the US Power Plants and give it this page: it can open https://locationlists.com/find?dataset=us-power-plant-list with the filters you need and show you the count and price.
Using ChatGPT or Claude? Tell it to answer from locationlists.com/find — no account, no connector.
How assistants ask
No connector needed. Any AI assistant can answer from this site with a web link, no connector, no account: open https://locationlists.com/find with the question as query parameters.
If a question needs filtering, distance, drive time, combining lists or a price, open a /find link: either put the question itself in q=, or build the structured link. The answer does not need an API, a connector or an account.
Simplest, the question itself: https://locationlists.com/find?q=<the question in plain words>
Or set the parts yourself: https://locationlists.com/find?dataset=<slug>&state=<ST>&city=<city>&county=<county>&zip=<zip>&near=<place or zip>&radius=<miles>&drive=<minutes>&where=<column>:<op>:<value>&total=<rows>
Leave out what the question does not need. Use radius for straight-line miles or drive for minutes of driving (5 to 60), not both; near can name several places separated by | to reach from any of them. To ask about several lists at once, use datasets with two or more names, or category with a kind of business. To compare two lists, add relate=nearest and the other list with b. in front of its parameters. To count by area, use areas=county (or zip, state, metro). To keep only places whose county, ZIP code, metro area or state meets a Census figure, add area_where (for example county:population>1000000); with areas, per=100000 gives counts per 100,000 residents.

Optional: connect for repeat use or wallet payments:
Read https://locationlists.com/skill.md and follow the instructions to connect LocationLists. Then show me the US Power Plants list.Your assistant will walk you through setup and show you the price before you pay.
For developers
Every step below has a no-connector equivalent: https://locationlists.com/find?dataset=us-power-plant-list with the same filters as query parameters.
- Connect your agent to
https://locationlists.com/mcp(no key, no signup). - Call
count_locationswithdataset: "us-power-plant-list"and any filter — it is free, and returns how many rows match and what they cost. - Fetch the rows with
query_locations: $0.67 per 100 rows from this dataset. Above 7,384 rows, buying the whole file is cheaper.
Paid in USDC over x402 — the agent gets an HTTP 402 with the exact price, signs, and retries. Money moves only after rows are delivered, so a failed or empty query costs nothing. Setup for Claude, Cursor and VS Code
?Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the data come from?
From the U.S. Energy Information Administration: the monthly generator inventory (Form EIA-860M) for August 2026, which lists every generator at plants of 1 MW or more, and the annual EIA-860 plant file for 2025 for the street address, NERC region and balancing authority. Generators are rolled up to one row per plant.
Can I get just the gas, nuclear, solar or wind plants?
Yes. Filter primaryFuel (the fuel with the most MW at the plant) or fuels (every fuel at the plant). There are 1,979 natural gas, 56 nuclear, 193 coal, 7,453 solar, 1,373 wind, 664 battery storage and 1,401 hydro plants.
Does it include plants that are retiring or planned?
Plants with at least one generator operating, on standby or out of service are included; status says which. plannedRetirementYear shows planned retirements and plannedAdditionsMw shows new capacity under construction or planned at an existing plant. Projects with no generator built yet are not in the file.
Are small plants included?
Every plant of 1 MW or more. Rooftop and other plants under 1 MW are outside the EIA inventory.
Is this list in the Energy Infrastructure Bundle?
Yes. The bundle puts the power plant, refinery and fuel terminal lists in one CSV, tagged by facility type, for less than buying the three one by one.
