Methodology
1,086 datasets covering 15,210,320 business locations. This page explains what goes into each file, what the dates and percentages on a dataset page mean, and what happens if a file is not what you expected.
Each dataset is built from the place that publishes the list: a company's own store or dealer finder, an association directory, a state license register, or a government file. 700 of the 1,086 datasets come from a free public government file. For those, the dataset page says so plainly, names the source, and lists what we did to the records with a count for each step. Each dataset page describes its own source.
It is the date the file you download was last put together, read from the file's own record when it was uploaded. It is not a promise about the future. 1,086 datasets carry a build date, from August 19, 2026 to September 15, 2026.
A dataset page shows a refresh schedule only when an automatic job really rebuilds that file on a timetable. Right now that is 217 datasets (217 every week). Every other dataset shows only the date its file was built, so you can judge for yourself whether it is recent enough.
The percentage next to a field is the share of rows in the delivered file that have a value in that column, counted across the whole file rather than estimated from a few rows. 1,086 datasets have these measurements. A field that is filled on fewer than 1 in 100 rows is not listed as a field; it appears in the fill table as “not in this release”.
When a file is cleaned up (duplicates removed, spellings corrected, extra details matched in from another public source), the build counts what each step changed and records it with a date. The dataset page shows that record as “What we did to this data”, and every number in it comes from the count, not from a sentence someone typed. 780 datasets have a recorded log so far. Datasets without one show nothing rather than a general claim.
Every dataset page shows real rows from the file and a map of where the records are, counted by area, so you can check the list before paying. The sample rows are taken from the file itself.
