3,628 propane dealer locations across 49 states, with a street address and phone number on every record. It combines the national marketers' own branch networks — Suburban Propane 948, Ferrellgas 860, AmeriGas 712 — with 962 independent dealers carrying no national brand, plus regional operators such as ThompsonGas and Dead River and New Jersey's licensed-marketer register. Against an estimated 3,500 US retail propane marketers this is effectively full coverage, and the independents are the half that matters commercially: they are the acquisition targets and the ones with local buying authority. Propane is rural, fragmented and consolidating, and the independents that make up the remainder are largely invisible online with no national register to pull from, which is exactly why the chain footprint is the practical starting map. Tank, cylinder and equipment manufacturers, delivery-routing and tank-monitoring software vendors, and the acquirers rolling up regional dealers all use branch-level geography to plan territory and to see which markets the nationals already hold.

All 3,628 records, as published — the complete set rather than a sample. That matters most for coverage and gap questions: put together the same list from partial searches and every location you miss reads as a gap that is not there, so the answer is wrong rather than merely late. Assembling the U.S.-wide coverage by hand also means one query per area against sources that cap what they return per search.
