CMS scores each facility one to five stars on an overall measure combining health inspections, staffing and quality measures. It is the single most-cited quality signal in the sector and it moves referral patterns, so it is a useful qualifier for anyone selling in.
Is ownership really that useful?
It is the most useful column in the file. A for-profit chain, a single owner-operator and a non-profit make purchasing decisions in completely different ways and at different levels, so most buyers segment on it before anything else.
