US Hospitals
U.S. Location Dataset // 6,527
All 6,527 Medicare-certified US hospitals from the federal Provider of Services file, each with its CMS Certification Number, street address, phone, ownership, bed count and facility type. The type split is what makes it usable rather than a flat list: 3,092 short-term acute care hospitals, 1,389 critical access hospitals serving rural areas, 661 psychiatric, 507 federal, 414 rehabilitation, 310 long-term acute care, 94 children's hospitals and 52 of the new rural emergency hospitals. Medical device and equipment manufacturers, pharmaceutical and supply distributors, revenue-cycle and clinical software vendors, staffing agencies and construction firms all size and route their sales effort on exactly these fields. The CMS Certification Number is the join key that connects this to quality, cost and utilisation data published elsewhere, which no scraped list can offer.
All 6,527 records, as published — the complete set rather than a sample. That matters most for coverage and gap questions: put together the same list from partial searches and every location you miss reads as a gap that is not there, so the answer is wrong rather than merely late. Assembling the U.S.-wide coverage by hand also means one query per area against sources that cap what they return per search.

The percentage is how much of the file carries that field, measured on the delivered CSV rather than estimated. 2 of 16 fields are populated on under half the rows (rating, chainName). Every row always carries the identifiers and the full address.

?Frequently Asked Questions
Where does this come from?
The CMS Provider of Services file, the federal government's own register of Medicare-certified providers. It is authoritative rather than scraped, and every record carries the CMS Certification Number so you can join it to the quality, cost report and utilisation files CMS publishes separately.
Does it include hospitals that do not take Medicare?
No. Certification is what puts a facility in this file, so a handful of purely private or cash-only hospitals are absent. In practice almost every US hospital is Medicare-certified, so the gap is small and we would rather say so than imply total coverage.
What is a critical access hospital?
A rural designation for facilities with 25 or fewer inpatient beds that are a distance from other hospitals. There are 1,389 of them and they buy very differently from a large acute-care system, which is why the subType column matters more than the raw count.
