US Wineries & Bonded Wine Premises
U.S. Location Dataset // 18,170
18,170 bonded wine premises across the United States, taken from the federal permit register the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau publishes, with a street address on 99% of records. This is the legal universe rather than a tourism directory: every business permitted to produce wine, including the custom-crush operations, blenders and virtual brands that never open a tasting room and therefore never appear on visitor-focused lists. California leads with 6,423, followed by Washington 1,428, Texas 1,016, Oregon 997 and New York 860. Glass, closure, barrel, label and equipment suppliers, distributors and importers, winery software vendors, and investors mapping consolidation all need the permitted universe. The register carries no phone, website or coordinates, which we state plainly rather than filling with guesses; distinct physical premises number 15,045 if you deduplicate addresses.
All 18,170 records, as published — the complete set rather than a sample. That matters most for coverage and gap questions: put together the same list from partial searches and every location you miss reads as a gap that is not there, so the answer is wrong rather than merely late. Assembling the U.S.-wide coverage by hand also means one query per area against sources that cap what they return per search.

{}Data Fields
The percentage is how much of the file carries that field, measured on the delivered CSV rather than estimated. 6 of 21 fields are populated on under half the rows (wineAmericaMember, membershipType, phone, website, latitude, longitude). Every row always carries the identifiers and the full address.

?Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this bigger than the commonly quoted 11,000 wineries?
That figure counts consumer-facing wineries. A federal wine permit also covers custom-crush facilities, blenders, alternating proprietors and virtual brands sharing a site, so the permit count runs higher. Deduplicating to distinct premises addresses gives 15,045. We report all three numbers rather than picking the flattering one.
Does it include phone numbers, websites or coordinates?
No. The federal register publishes the permit holder, operating name and address only. We have not padded it with geocoded or scraped guesses. If you need coordinates, the free Census batch geocoder handles this file well, and we can run that for you.
How current is the federal file?
The bureau republishes it periodically and the publication date is part of the source path, so we always fetch the current edition rather than a cached copy.
