US Trucking Companies (5+ Trucks)
U.S. Location Dataset // 248,345
248,345 active US trucking companies operating five or more trucks, filtered out of the federal motor carrier census. The filtering is the product. The raw federal file holds 4,496,613 registered entities; 2,234,805 are active; 1,978,800 have a US address and at least one truck — and 87% of those run one to four trucks and will never buy fleet software, factoring or a national insurance program. Cutting to five or more leaves 248,345 real businesses, of which 50,630 run twenty or more and 8,609 run a hundred or more. Each record carries the DOT number, the MC docket where one exists, fleet size, driver count, cargo types, hazmat authority, safety rating, the physical address, phone and email. Email coverage is 88.8% and those addresses are 95.6% unique, which is unusually good for a B2B file of this size. Insurers, factoring companies, fuel card and telematics providers, load boards, ELD vendors and equipment finance all sell into exactly this list.
All 248,345 records, as published — the complete set rather than a sample. That matters most for coverage and gap questions: put together the same list from partial searches and every location you miss reads as a gap that is not there, so the answer is wrong rather than merely late. Assembling the U.S.-wide coverage by hand also means one query per area against sources that cap what they return per search.

?Frequently Asked Questions
What does 'active' actually mean here?
It means the carrier's census registration is active with the federal regulator. It is not proof of current operating authority and not proof of insurance — a carrier can be census-active with revoked authority. If you need authority status specifically, that is a different federal file and we can join it for you.
How current are the fleet sizes?
They come from each carrier's own biennial filing, and 20.6% of this list has not refiled in four years, so those counts are that stale. The filing date is a column, so you can restrict to recently refiled carriers when currency matters more than reach.
Why is there a fleetSizeSuspect column?
Because the regulator does not validate self-reported fleet size and a small number of carriers have filed nonsense — one California towing company reported 2,099,979 trucks. Roughly 1,200 rows claim 5,000+ trucks with fewer than a tenth as many drivers. We ship the federal value as filed rather than rewriting it, and flag it so anyone sorting by fleet size can exclude the garbage in one filter.
