Washington DC Licensed General Contractors
U.S. Location Dataset // 5,714
This is the complete licensed universe of general and building contractors in Washington DC, not a directory of the ones who chose to be listed: every active license the Washington DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection publishes in its public extract, reduced to one row per licensed firm or individual at an address. 5,714 records. 1,154 records carry a separate business name from the licensed individual. Classifications in the file: General Contractor/Construction Manager (A, B, C (4,804), Home Improvement Contractor (910). 4,572 licensees list an out-of-state address (contractors licensed in Washington DC but based elsewhere); the state column identifies them so they are one filter to drop. Each record carries the state license number, so it joins cleanly to permit data, insurance certificates and other state files, and the expiration date, so you can target renewals. Buyers use it for distributor and manufacturer territory planning, dealer-program recruitment, insurance and financing prospecting, and roll-up sourcing in a fragmented trade. Association lists such as our ACCA member dataset cover the engaged slice; this covers everyone the state allows to pull a permit. Refreshed weekly from the board's extract.
All 5,714 records, as published — the complete set rather than a sample. That matters most for coverage and gap questions: put together the same list from partial searches and every location you miss reads as a gap that is not there, so the answer is wrong rather than merely late. Assembling the U.S.-wide coverage by hand also means one query per area against sources that cap what they return per search.

?Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as the state's license lookup?
It is the same underlying data, taken from the board's bulk public extract rather than one-at-a-time lookups, and reshaped to one row per licensed firm or individual at an address with a trade column and a certified/registered class. The lookup shows one license at a time; this is all of them in one file, refreshed weekly.
Does every record have a phone number and a business name?
Only where the board publishes them. State boards license the qualifying individual, and many file an individual name and address rather than a company name. The name column uses the business name when one is on file and the licensee otherwise; licenseeName always carries the individual. Phone is present only for boards that publish it.
Why are some addresses outside Washington DC?
Contractors can hold a Washington DC license while being based in another state, common near state lines and for national firms. They are real Washington DC licensees, so they are included, and the state column makes them a one-filter exclusion if you only want in-state locations.
