The complete federal firearms licensee list as the ATF publishes it, 77,150 active licensees, each with the licensee name, the trading name, the premises street address, phone, county, license type and expiry. The license type breakdown is what makes it usable: 44,903 type 01 dealers, 22,128 type 07 firearms manufacturers, 5,785 type 02 pawnbrokers, 1,683 type 08 importers, 1,651 type 06 ammunition manufacturers and several hundred destructive-device licensees. Anyone selling into the firearms trade needs this: distributors and wholesalers, ammunition and optics brands, e-commerce retailers building transfer-dealer networks, point-of-sale and bound-book compliance software, insurers and payment processors. The ATF republishes monthly and we track it, so surrendered and newly issued licenses move in and out rather than a list going quietly stale.
All 77,150 records, as published — the complete set rather than a sample. That matters most for coverage and gap questions: put together the same list from partial searches and every location you miss reads as a gap that is not there, so the answer is wrong rather than merely late. Assembling the U.S.-wide coverage by hand also means one query per area against sources that cap what they return per search.

Does this include type 03 collectors, who are private individuals at home addresses?
No, and that is the ATF's decision rather than ours. The ATF withholds curio and relic collector licenses from its public listing entirely, so there are zero in the file. Everything here is a licensed business: dealers, pawnbrokers, manufacturers and importers. That means you can use it for prospecting without first filtering out tens of thousands of private homes.
Which license types are which?
Type 01 is a dealer in firearms, the ordinary gun shop and the type most buyers want. 02 is a pawnbroker, 03 a collector (withheld, see above), 06 an ammunition manufacturer, 07 a firearms manufacturer who may also deal, 08 an importer, and 09, 10 and 11 cover destructive devices. Both the raw code and a plain-English label are in the file.
How current is the expiry date?
The ATF publishes an expiry month and year but no day, so the field is year and month only. We do not invent a day to make it look more precise than the source is.
