All 130 US petroleum refineries in the U.S. Energy Information Administration's Refinery Capacity Report (capacity at 1 January 2026), one row per refinery: 122 operating, 2 idle and 6 sites with processing units but no crude distillation. Together they hold 18.16 million barrels per calendar day of crude distillation capacity. Texas has 34, Louisiana 15 and California 12; by PADD, 58 are on the Gulf Coast (PADD 3), 25 in the Midwest, 24 on the West Coast, 15 in the Rockies and 8 on the East Coast. Each row names the operating company and the parent corporation EIA reports (Marathon and Valero 13 each, HF Sinclair 8, PBF 7), and carries crude capacity in barrels per calendar day and per stream day, operating and idle capacity, and the capacity of every downstream unit: vacuum distillation, catalytic cracking (83 refineries), hydrocracking, coking (50), catalytic reforming, hydrotreating, alkylation, isomerization, aromatics, asphalt, lubricants, hydrogen and sulfur. The street address, ZIP, county and coordinates come from the EPA facility record of the refinery, named in each row.

## Questions

### Where does the data come from?

Capacities and owners come from the EIA Refinery Capacity Report (capacity at 1 January 2026), which covers every operable US refinery. The EIA report has no street address, so each refinery is located from its EPA facility record: the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program record for 118 refineries and the EPA Facility Registry for 12 sites that do not report to it.

### Which units does it cover?

Crude distillation (operable, operating and idle), vacuum distillation, catalytic cracking, hydrocracking, coking, catalytic reforming, hydrotreating, solvent deasphalting, and production capacity for alkylates, isomerate, aromatics, asphalt, lubricants, petroleum coke, hydrogen and sulfur.

### Does it include idle refineries?

Yes. Every refinery in EIA's report is in the file: 122 operating, 2 idle and 6 sites that run downstream units without crude distillation. status says which.

### Is this list in the Energy Infrastructure Bundle?

Yes. The bundle puts the power plant, refinery and fuel terminal lists in one CSV, tagged by facility type, for less than buying the three one by one.

### How current is it?

Snapshot built on October 3, 2026. It is a one-time snapshot and is not rebuilt on a schedule.
