28,037 stores that carry Freshpet fresh dog and cat food, read every week from Freshpet's own where-to-buy locator, in all 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico. 20,415 are retailers' stores the locator lists with the Freshpet products on their shelves (a median of 25 of the 80 products) and their UPCs; 7,622 are stores Freshpet adds to its locator itself, filed under an account (independent pet stores, Pet Supplies Plus, Tractor Supply, or a wholesaler such as UNFI or AWG for the grocers it supplies). Walmart has 4,607 of them, Target 1,931, PetSmart 1,505, Petco 1,475, Publix 1,459 and Kroger 1,186; California has 3,008, Florida 2,163 and Texas 2,098. Each row gives the retailer, store name, address, coordinates and phone.

The file has all 28,037 locations across 52 states in one download. Building the same list by searching one area at a time tends to miss places, and a missed place looks like a gap in coverage that is not really there.

- `locatorRecordType`: What the locator returned the store as: a retailer's store, or a point of interest the brand added itself (e.g. point of interest (brand-added store))
- `publishedRetailerNames`: The retailer name each merged record publishes (e.g. Walmart)
- `addressAsPublished`: The address exactly as the locator publishes it, before it was split into columns (e.g. 250 Turner St, Aberdeen (NC))

## What we did to this data

Unified 244 city spellings, corrected 2,762 misspelled city names, standardised 4,992 state codes, shortened 84 ZIP codes, restored 25 ZIP codes, added the county to 28,021 listings, re-placed 23 misplaced map points, flagged 478 incomplete addresses and measured 28,037 rows. Rebuilt October 11, 2026 from freshpet.com.

### What is in each row?

One store that Freshpet's own locator lists as carrying Freshpet: the retailer (Walmart, Target, PetSmart, Petco, Publix...), the store's name, address, coordinates and phone, and for retailers' stores the Freshpet products the locator lists there with their UPCs. locatorRecordType says whether the row is a retailer's store or a store Freshpet added itself.

### How does the count compare with Freshpet's own figure?

Freshpet's 10-Q says its Freshpet Fridges were in approximately 28,037 retail stores at 30 June 2026, across North America and parts of Europe. This list has 28,037 U.S. stores, 0.91 of that figure.

### How does it compare with other Freshpet store lists?

The other one on sale has 23,905 rows, last updated January 2024, with 17 fields.

### How complete is it?

The locator only answers "stores near here", so the whole U.S. is searched until every ZIP area sits inside a complete answer, and a search that hits the locator's result cap is asked again over a smaller area. After the run, 361 fresh searches at random points found no store missing from the file. It is every store Freshpet's own locator lists; a store the locator leaves out is not in it.

### Why are there so many columns?

Because the file keeps every field the company's locator and location pages publish for each location, not a shortlist. A column the source fills for only some locations is still kept, and its fill is shown beside it on this page.

### How is this data cleaned?

Every rebuild runs the same steps and counts what each one changed. For the current file, rebuilt October 11, 2026 from freshpet.com: Merged 0 duplicate listings that had the same business name, street address and ZIP code, keeping every filled-in detail from both (October 11, 2026). Unified 244 city names written more than one way within the same ZIP code (for example with and without a space or an abbreviation) to the US Census Bureau spelling (October 11, 2026). Corrected 2,762 misspelled city names to the US Census Bureau place name for their ZIP code (October 11, 2026). Set the state on 4,992 listings to its two-letter US Postal Service code, matched to the US Census Bureau state register (or, for Canadian rows, the ISO province code) (October 11, 2026). Shortened 84 ZIP codes to the five-digit code every address filter expects, keeping the delivery-route segment in a column of its own (October 11, 2026). Restored the leading zero on 25 ZIP codes that had lost it (October 11, 2026). Added map coordinates to 0 listings that had none, from the US Census Bureau address geocoder or, where the street address could not be matched, the centre of the ZIP code (October 11, 2026). Set the county and its federal county code on 28,021 listings, matched to the US Census Bureau county list from the county the source records, the listing's map point, or its ZIP code area (October 11, 2026). Checked every map point against the state in its address and re-placed 23 points that fell outside that state (October 11, 2026). Flagged 478 addresses that are incomplete, a PO box, or missing a house number, in an address quality column (October 11, 2026). Checked that the row count, state count and field completeness published for this file were measured from the file itself (October 11, 2026).

The current file was rebuilt October 11, 2026 from freshpet.com. Doing it yourself means downloading the full release, repeating each of those steps, and repeating them again every time the source updates.
