Canonical URL: https://locationlists.com/data/self-storage-facility-list

64,851 self-storage facilities across the United States, assembled from the major operators' own locators, a national marketplace, and two open POI graphs, because self-storage has no licensing body and no registry of any kind. The brand column separates the chains — Public Storage 4,953, Extra Space 4,826, U-Haul 2,205, CubeSmart 1,851, then a long tail of 792 regional operators — from 43,509 facilities carrying no brand at all. Those unbranded sites are the point: independents are the majority of the industry and they are the acquisition pipeline every REIT and private equity buyer is hunting, as well as the customer base for management software, insurance, revenue management and third-party management services. A street address is present on 97.4% of rows and coordinates on 98.1%. Self-storage has been one of the most consistently consolidating real estate sectors for a decade and there is no public list of who owns what, so this is the starting map. Refreshed weekly.

## The figures

- Records: 64,851 locations (63,195 US)
- States: 52
- Coverage: U.S.
- Fields: 23
- Price: $119 one-time, CSV download, commercial license (https://locationlists.com/license)
- File built on September 15, 2026. Rebuilt weekly on an automatic schedule.
- File last modified: 2026-09-15

The file has all 64,851 locations across 52 states in one download. Building the same list by searching one area at a time tends to miss places, and a missed place looks like a gap in coverage that is not really there.

## What we did to this data

Unified 827 city spellings, corrected 17 misspelled city names, restored 14 ZIP codes, added coordinates to 1,217 listings, added the county to 63,193 listings, re-placed 42 misplaced map points, flagged 2,286 incomplete addresses and measured 64,851 rows. Rebuilt September 15, 2026 from docs.overturemaps.org.

## How complete the key fields are

phone 91%, website 83%, street address 97%, city 98%, state 97%, ZIP code 97%, latitude 100%, longitude 100%. 18 of 24 columns are filled on at least half the rows.

No connector and no account; each link answers with the matching count, preview rows and the price for just that part.

## Questions

### Is this every self-storage facility in the country?

It is more than the ~52,000 the Self Storage Association counts, and the difference is basis, not duplication. We checked before publishing: the merge collapses same-chain duplicates twice over — once for rows with no street line and again for rows sharing a street number within 150 m, 945 rows in total — and only 2.6% of what remains lacks a street line, so these really are ~64,851 distinct locations. A POI graph counts every site that physically exists — RV and vehicle storage yards, single-site operators, sites that have since closed — while the SSA counts facilities on an operator basis. We publish the raw count and tell you the basis rather than deleting real rows to match someone else's definition, and we deliberately do not express this as a percentage of any industry estimate. Filter on the brand and unitTypes columns if you want a narrower cut.

### Why are 43,509 records missing a brand?

Because they are independents rather than chain locations, which is exactly what makes them interesting. If you are looking for acquisition targets or software customers, that is the segment to work.

### Does it include unit types and pricing?

Facility attributes such as climate control, drive-up access and RV parking are included where the source publishes them. Live pricing is not; it changes daily and would be stale the moment you downloaded it.

### How is this data cleaned?

Every rebuild runs the same steps and counts what each one changed. For the current file, rebuilt September 15, 2026 from docs.overturemaps.org: Merged 0 duplicate listings that had the same business name, street address and ZIP code, keeping every filled-in detail from both (September 15, 2026). Unified 827 city names written more than one way within the same ZIP code (for example with and without a space or an abbreviation) to the US Census Bureau spelling (September 15, 2026). Corrected 17 misspelled city names to the US Census Bureau place name for their ZIP code (September 15, 2026). Restored the leading zero on 14 ZIP codes that had lost it (September 15, 2026). Added map coordinates to 1,217 listings that had none, from the US Census Bureau address geocoder or, where the street address could not be matched, the centre of the ZIP code (September 15, 2026). Set the county and its federal county code on 63,193 listings, matched to the US Census Bureau county list from the county the source records, the listing's map point, or its ZIP code area (September 15, 2026). Checked every map point against the state in its address and re-placed 42 points that fell outside that state (September 15, 2026). Flagged 2,286 addresses that are incomplete, a PO box, or missing a house number, in an address quality column (September 15, 2026). Checked that the row count, state count and field completeness published for this file were measured from the file itself (September 15, 2026).

### Isn't this free on docs.overturemaps.org?

The underlying records are public on docs.overturemaps.org. What you pay for is the work between that public release and this file: unified 827 city spellings, corrected 17 misspelled city names, restored 14 ZIP codes, added coordinates to 1,217 listings, added the county to 63,193 listings, re-placed 42 misplaced map points, flagged 2,286 incomplete addresses and measured 64,851 rows, and a fresh rebuild every week. The current file was rebuilt September 15, 2026 from docs.overturemaps.org. Doing it yourself means downloading the full release, repeating each of those steps, and repeating them again every time the source updates.

### How complete is each field?

Measured on every row of the current file, the share of rows that carry each key field: phone 91%, website 83%, street address 97%, city 98%, state 97%, ZIP code 97%, latitude 100%, longitude 100%. 18 of 24 columns are filled on at least half the rows.
