106,609 US pharmacies from the national provider registry, each classified as chain, franchise or independent — 43,822 chain, 66,370 independent and 1,291 franchise. That classification is the entire value of the file. Anyone can list the CVS and Walgreens stores; the commercially interesting question is which pharmacies are independently owned, and answering it requires matching every organization name against the corporate chains and then separately recognising that Health Mart, Good Neighbor and Medicine Shoppe are franchise banners over independently owned stores rather than corporate chains. Get that wrong and you either lose your best prospects or waste effort on stores with no local buying authority. Drug wholesalers, pharmacy software and point-of-sale vendors, compounding and specialty suppliers, and buyers consolidating independent pharmacy all work from exactly this split. Every record carries the national provider identifier, so it joins cleanly to prescribing and claims data.

## The figures

- Records: 106,613 locations (106,609 US)
- States: 52
- Coverage: U.S.
- Fields: 23
- Price: $149 one-time, CSV download, commercial license (https://locationlists.com/license)
- File built on October 11, 2026. Rebuilt weekly on an automatic schedule.
- File last modified: 2026-10-11

The file has all 106,613 locations across 52 states in one download. Building the same list by searching one area at a time tends to miss places, and a missed place looks like a gap in coverage that is not really there.

## What we did to this data

Unified 2,040 city spellings, corrected 82 misspelled city names, shortened 93,896 ZIP codes, added coordinates to 106,490 listings, added the county to 106,490 listings, flagged 1,128 incomplete addresses and measured 106,613 rows. Rebuilt October 11, 2026 from npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov.

## How complete the key fields are

phone 100%, street address 100%, city 100%, state 100%, ZIP code 100%, latitude 100%, longitude 100%. 21 of 23 columns are filled on at least half the rows.

## Questions

### How do you tell a chain from an independent?

By matching the organization name against the corporate chains — CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Costco, Publix, HEB and the rest — and classifying what remains as independent. Franchise banners are handled separately and deliberately, because a Health Mart is an independently owned store flying a banner, not a corporate location.

### Why does the franchise distinction matter?

Because those 1,291 stores are independent buyers. Treating them as chain locations removes real prospects from your list; treating them as ordinary independents misses that they already buy through a banner program. They are flagged separately so you can decide.

### What is the NPI good for?

It is the national provider identifier, the standard key across US healthcare data. It lets you join this file to prescribing, claims and provider datasets, which no scraped pharmacy list can support.

### How is this data cleaned?

Every rebuild runs the same steps and counts what each one changed. For the current file, rebuilt October 11, 2026 from npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov: Merged 0 duplicate listings that had the same business name, street address and ZIP code, keeping every filled-in detail from both (October 11, 2026). Unified 2,040 city names written more than one way within the same ZIP code (for example with and without a space or an abbreviation) to the US Census Bureau spelling (October 11, 2026). Corrected 82 misspelled city names to the US Census Bureau place name for their ZIP code (October 11, 2026). Shortened 93,896 ZIP codes to the five-digit code every address filter expects, keeping the delivery-route segment in a column of its own (October 11, 2026). Added map coordinates to 106,490 listings that had none, from the US Census Bureau address geocoder or, where the street address could not be matched, the centre of the ZIP code (October 11, 2026). Set the county and its federal county code on 106,490 listings, matched to the US Census Bureau county list from the county the source records, the listing's map point, or its ZIP code area (October 11, 2026). Checked every map point against the state in its address and re-placed 0 points that fell outside that state (October 11, 2026). Flagged 1,128 addresses that are incomplete, a PO box, or missing a house number, in an address quality column (October 11, 2026). Checked that the row count, state count and field completeness published for this file were measured from the file itself (October 11, 2026).

### Isn't this free on npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov?

The underlying records are public on npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov. What you pay for is the work between that public release and this file: unified 2,040 city spellings, corrected 82 misspelled city names, shortened 93,896 ZIP codes, added coordinates to 106,490 listings, added the county to 106,490 listings, flagged 1,128 incomplete addresses and measured 106,613 rows, and a fresh rebuild every week. The current file was rebuilt October 11, 2026 from npiregistry.cms.hhs.gov. Doing it yourself means downloading the full release, repeating each of those steps, and repeating them again every time the source updates.

### How complete is each field?

Measured on every row of the current file, the share of rows that carry each key field: phone 100%, street address 100%, city 100%, state 100%, ZIP code 100%, latitude 100%, longitude 100%. 21 of 23 columns are filled on at least half the rows.
