9,573 bands, ensembles and music societies in the US. 9,573 are nonprofits registered with the IRS under NTEE A68 and A6C, each with its EIN, revenue, assets, expenses, employees, volunteers, ruling date and mission. 221 more are groups found in Overture Maps open data with no exemption of their own. 3,373 have a phone number. 5,074 have a website. 1,193 have an email address. We read each place's own website once for its email, social profiles and what it offers. 1,532 have a Facebook page and 1,046 an Instagram profile. Largest cities: New York, NY 250; Chicago, IL 102; Brooklyn, NY 92; Los Angeles, CA 83; Houston, TX 77.

The file has all 9,573 locations across 52 states in one download. Building the same list by searching one area at a time tends to miss places, and a missed place looks like a gap in coverage that is not really there.

## Questions

### Where does the list come from?

The IRS exempt organizations file (NTEE A68 and A6C) for every registered group that still files, at its filing address, plus groups in Overture Maps open data that have no IRS record of their own. A group in both is one row.

### Does it name people?

No. Officer names and other personal fields in the IRS file are left out. Emails are kept only when they are an organization mailbox.

### Can I buy every arts and entertainment list at once?

Yes. The US Arts & Entertainment Venues file holds all 25 lists, one row per place, 134,794 places. It costs the 25 lists added up, less 10%.
