54,804 independent insurance agency offices across all 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico: agencies that place business with several carriers rather than one. Texas (6,431), California (5,495) and Florida (5,251) have the most, then New York (2,329), Pennsylvania (2,289) and Ohio (2,174); New York, New Jersey and Connecticut together hold 3,891. The list starts from 149,604 Overture Maps places filed under insurance agencies. Taken out: 46,922 places at the same office as a row in our State Farm, Allstate, Farmers or American Family lists; 23,490 named for another captive or career-agent system (Shelter, COUNTRY Financial, every Farm Bureau, Liberty Mutual, GEICO local offices, AAA, New York Life, Primerica, Bankers Life and others), a carrier-owned store chain or a lead-generation call centre; 3,248 on one of those companies' websites; 2,503 title, bail, adjuster and government offices; 3,144 named only as a carrier or a carrier claims office; 7,390 with no street address or no insurance word in the name or website; and 8,076 repeat listings. The rollupParent column names the roll-up, broker group or franchise network for 4,123 offices whose own name or website says so: Confie (1,095), Goosehead (921), HUB International (376), Fiesta (275), Brightway (260), AssuredPartners (178) and others. 37,597 agencies are the only row with their name.

### What counts as an independent insurance agency here?

An agency office that is not a captive agent of one carrier and not a carrier's own office. Every place at the same office as a row in our State Farm, Allstate, Farmers or American Family lists is taken out, along with agents of other captive and career systems (Shelter, COUNTRY Financial, Farm Bureau companies, Liberty Mutual, GEICO, AAA, New York Life, Primerica, Bankers Life and others), carrier-owned store chains such as Fred Loya and Direct Auto, carrier claims and corporate offices, and lead-generation call centres.

### Which agencies already belong to a roll-up?

The rollupParent column names it for 4,123 offices whose own name or website carries the group's name: 2,308 belong to roll-ups and broker groups (Confie 1,095, HUB International 376, AssuredPartners 178, Leavitt Group 117, World Insurance Associates 92, NFP 81, USI 61, Brown & Brown 45, Acrisure 37 and others) and 1,815 to franchise networks (Goosehead 921, Fiesta 275, Brightway 260, GreatFlorida 145, TWFG 143, We Insure 65). Agencies a roll-up bought that still trade under their own name and site are not tagged.

### Are Nationwide agencies included?

Yes. Nationwide ended its exclusive-agent model in 2020 and its agents now sell through independent agencies, so they stay in; 515 rows carry Nationwide in their name and carrierInName says so.

### How do I keep only single-office agencies?

Keep the rows where locationsWithSameName is 1: 37,597 agencies. The others share a name with at least one other row; a shared name is not always one owner.

### Where does the data come from?

Overture Maps place data (release 2026-08-19): every insurance agency category, checked against our State Farm, Allstate, Farmers and American Family agent lists. Each row keeps its Overture place id, sources and last-updated date.

### How current is it?
