16,550 independent and regional dry cleaners in every state, Washington DC and Puerto Rico: every dry cleaner storefront that is not a location of one of our 27 chain lists. California has 2,313, Texas 2,080, New York 1,377, Florida 1,360 and New Jersey 716. Multi-site local operators stay in: locationsWithSameWebsite and locationsWithSameName say which rows belong to one operator (4,011 rows share a website with another row). 96.6% of rows have a phone, 64.6% a website and 50.4% an email (from Overture Maps, the shop's own website or the Texas owners list). Where Texas, Florida or North Carolina register the shop, the row carries the register's facts: plant or drop-off, solvent, owner of record and email, Texas's receipts band and remediation fund eligibility; 1,990 rows match a state register, and 814 register shops are in the list from the register alone. 3,088 rows carry their EPA registry id and ECHO compliance record. Each shop's own website was read: webStatus says whether it answers (ok on 3,784 rows), and the site's email, social profiles, founding year and legal entity are in their own columns.

### What counts as independent here?

A dry cleaner that is not a location of one of our 27 chain lists (matched by phone, by street address or by a shared name word within 150 m) and is not a chain or franchise, a delivery-only service or a commercial linen or uniform launderer. Regional operators with several shops stay in, because they are the shops a buyer of every dry cleaner needs.

### How do I keep only single-site shops?

Keep the rows where locationsWithSameWebsite is 1 or blank (12,539 rows), or where locationsWithSameName is 1 (8,991). A shared name is not always one owner; a shared website usually is.

### What do the state registers add?

Texas (TCEQ), Florida (DEP) and North Carolina (DEQ) publish every operating dry cleaner they register. A shop that matches its register entry carries whether it is a plant (858 rows) or a drop-off (581), the solvent (779), the owner of record (1,723) and the owner's email (1,037), and in Texas the receipts band and remediation fund eligibility. A registered shop that no map listing has is added from the register: 448 in Texas, 245 in Florida and 121 in North Carolina.

### What does webStatus tell me?

What each shop's own website returned when it was read: ok (3,784 rows), dns (the domain no longer resolves, 2,745), parked (634), a 404 or a timeout, or another business's site or one unrelated to cleaning (1,457, whose address was taken out of the website column). It lets you skip dead sites before an email or a visit.
