Canonical URL: https://locationlists.com/data/distillery-list

6,525 distilled spirits plants in the United States, built from the federal permit register and cross-matched against a craft distillery directory, with a street address on 99.6% of records and coordinates on 32%. A federal permit covers everything from a two-person craft operation to industrial alcohol producers, bottlers and rectifiers, which is why the permit count is well above the roughly 2,700 craft distilleries the industry counts. The onDistilleryTrail flag marks the craft-shaped subset and returns 2,108, right in line with that figure, so you can work with either the full permitted universe or the consumer-facing craft segment. Barrel, still, bottle, closure and label suppliers, distributors, tasting-room and hospitality vendors, and anyone tracking the craft spirits boom use this. Kentucky's 306 plants and the concentration in California, New York and Texas show where the industry actually sits.

## The figures

- Records: 6,542 locations
- States: 52
- Coverage: U.S.
- Fields: 22
- Price: $39 one-time, CSV download, commercial license (https://locationlists.com/license)
- File built on October 18, 2026. Rebuilt weekly on an automatic schedule.
- File last modified: 2026-10-18

The file has all 6,542 locations across 52 states in one download. Building the same list by searching one area at a time tends to miss places, and a missed place looks like a gap in coverage that is not really there.

## Questions

### Why 6,525 when there are about 2,700 craft distilleries?

A distilled spirits plant permit is not the same thing as a craft distillery. It also covers bottlers, rectifiers, blenders and industrial alcohol producers. Filter on the onDistilleryTrail flag for the craft-shaped subset and you get 2,108, which matches the industry count.

### Where do the coordinates come from?

The federal register has none, so the 32% with coordinates come from the craft directory we merged in. The remainder have a full street address and can be geocoded; we do not invent coordinates for the rest.

### Is this the same source as your winery dataset?

Same federal register, different permit class. If you want spirits and wine together, or the whole beverage alcohol production universe including breweries, we build merged files on request.

### How is this data cleaned?

Every rebuild runs the same steps and counts what each one changed. For the current file, rebuilt October 18, 2026 from ttb.gov: Merged 0 duplicate listings that had the same business name, street address and ZIP code, keeping every filled-in detail from both (October 18, 2026). Unified 86 city names written more than one way within the same ZIP code (for example with and without a space or an abbreviation) to the US Census Bureau spelling (October 18, 2026). Corrected 24 misspelled city names to the US Census Bureau place name for their ZIP code (October 18, 2026). Set the state on 53 listings to its two-letter US Postal Service code, matched to the US Census Bureau state register (or, for Canadian rows, the ISO province code) (October 18, 2026). Shortened 5 ZIP codes to the five-digit code every address filter expects, keeping the delivery-route segment in a column of its own (October 18, 2026). Added map coordinates to 4,428 listings that had none, from the US Census Bureau address geocoder or, where the street address could not be matched, the centre of the ZIP code (October 18, 2026). Set the county and its federal county code on 6,169 listings, matched to the US Census Bureau county list from the county the source records, the listing's map point, or its ZIP code area (October 18, 2026). Checked every map point against the state in its address and re-placed 1 points that fell outside that state (October 18, 2026). Flagged 262 addresses that are incomplete, a PO box, or missing a house number, in an address quality column (October 18, 2026). Checked that the row count, state count and field completeness published for this file were measured from the file itself (October 18, 2026).

### Isn't this free on ttb.gov?

The underlying records are public on ttb.gov. What you pay for is the work between that public release and this file: unified 86 city spellings, corrected 24 misspelled city names, standardised 53 state codes, shortened 5 ZIP codes, added coordinates to 4,428 listings, added the county to 6,169 listings, re-placed 1 misplaced map points, flagged 262 incomplete addresses and measured 6,542 rows, and a fresh rebuild every week. The current file was rebuilt October 18, 2026 from ttb.gov. Doing it yourself means downloading the full release, repeating each of those steps, and repeating them again every time the source updates.

### How complete is each field?

Measured on every row of the current file, the share of rows that carry each key field: street address 100%, city 98%, state 100%, ZIP code 99%, latitude 100%, longitude 100%. 20 of 23 columns are filled on at least half the rows.
