This is the complete licensed universe of HVAC contractors in Connecticut, not a directory of the ones who chose to be listed: every active license the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection publishes in its public extract, reduced to one row per licensed firm or individual at an address. 4,835 records. 1,404 records carry a separate business name from the licensed individual. Classifications in the file: HEATING, PIPING & COOLING UNLIMITED CONTRACTOR (2,188), HEATING, PIPING & COOLING LIMITED CONTRACTOR (1,795), SHEET METAL LIMITED CONTRACTOR (786), SOLAR THERMAL CONTRACTOR (58). 567 licensees list an out-of-state address (contractors licensed in Connecticut but based elsewhere); the state column identifies them so they are one filter to drop. Each record carries the state license number, so it joins cleanly to permit data, insurance certificates and other state files, and the expiration date, so you can target renewals. Buyers use it for distributor and manufacturer territory planning, dealer-program recruitment, insurance and financing prospecting, and roll-up sourcing in a fragmented trade. Association lists such as our ACCA member dataset cover the engaged slice; this covers everyone the state allows to pull a permit. Refreshed weekly from the board's extract.

## The figures

- Records: 4,120 locations
- States: 29
- Coverage: partial U.S.: 29 states
- Fields: 21
- Price: $29 one-time, CSV download, commercial license (https://locationlists.com/license)
- File built on October 18, 2026. Rebuilt weekly on an automatic schedule.
- File last modified: 2026-10-18

The file has all 4,120 locations across 29 states in one download. Building the same list by searching one area at a time tends to miss places, and a missed place looks like a gap in coverage that is not really there.

## Questions

### Is this the same as the state's license lookup?

It is the same underlying data, taken from the board's bulk public extract rather than one-at-a-time lookups, and reshaped to one row per licensed firm or individual at an address with a trade column and a certified/registered class. The lookup shows one license at a time; this is all of them in one file, refreshed weekly.

### Does every record have a phone number and a business name?

Only where the board publishes them. State boards license the qualifying individual, and many file an individual name and address rather than a company name. The name column uses the business name when one is on file and the licensee otherwise; licenseeName always carries the individual. Phone is present only for boards that publish it.

### Why are some addresses outside Connecticut?

Contractors can hold a Connecticut license while being based in another state, common near state lines and for national firms. They are real Connecticut licensees, so they are included, and the state column makes them a one-filter exclusion if you only want in-state locations.

### How is this data cleaned?

Every rebuild runs the same steps and counts what each one changed. For the current file, rebuilt October 18, 2026 from data.ct.gov: Merged 0 duplicate listings that had the same business name, street address and ZIP code, keeping every filled-in detail from both (October 18, 2026). Unified 9 city names written more than one way within the same ZIP code (for example with and without a space or an abbreviation) to the US Census Bureau spelling (October 18, 2026). Corrected 5 misspelled city names to the US Census Bureau place name for their ZIP code (October 18, 2026). Shortened 2,992 ZIP codes to the five-digit code every address filter expects, keeping the delivery-route segment in a column of its own (October 18, 2026). Added map coordinates to 4,117 listings that had none, from the US Census Bureau address geocoder or, where the street address could not be matched, the centre of the ZIP code (October 18, 2026). Set the county and its federal county code on 4,117 listings, matched to the US Census Bureau county list from the county the source records, the listing's map point, or its ZIP code area (October 18, 2026). Checked every map point against the state in its address and re-placed 0 points that fell outside that state (October 18, 2026). Flagged 126 addresses that are incomplete, a PO box, or missing a house number, in an address quality column (October 18, 2026). Checked that the row count, state count and field completeness published for this file were measured from the file itself (October 18, 2026).

### Isn't this free on data.ct.gov?

The underlying records are public on data.ct.gov. What you pay for is the work between that public release and this file: unified 9 city spellings, corrected 5 misspelled city names, shortened 2,992 ZIP codes, added coordinates to 4,117 listings, added the county to 4,117 listings, flagged 126 incomplete addresses and measured 4,120 rows, and a fresh rebuild every week. The current file was rebuilt October 18, 2026 from data.ct.gov. Doing it yourself means downloading the full release, repeating each of those steps, and repeating them again every time the source updates.

### How complete is each field?

Measured on every row of the current file, the share of rows that carry each key field: street address 100%, city 100%, state 100%, ZIP code 100%, latitude 100%, longitude 100%. 20 of 21 columns are filled on at least half the rows.
